What a machine costs to keep running

Repair cost recorded per machine, which over a year tells you which machines cost the most to keep and where the number has passed the point of replacing them. That figure is rarely available in a garment factory, and it's usually higher than expected.

Preventive maintenance catches most of what would otherwise become a stoppage. What is left still follows the machine: a simple one is a simple fix, and something larger and more complex takes longer to diagnose and can wait on a part — the same way its yearly repair cost tracks what the machine is worth.
